Embroidery Artist
More Info
I am a hand embroidery artist making contemporary art within the framework of traditional embroidery processes.By retaining the historical integrity of the embroidery technique, my art is rooted in practise that has been undertaken for centuries.
I studied at the Royal School of Needlework on their certificate course, winning their annual silk shading award and exhibiting twice at Royal Hampton Court Palace.
I went on to win the Technical Excellence award at the National Needlecraft awards in London.
My blackwork embroidery has been featured in the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in both 2020 and 2023. Last year I was part of the Broderer’s ‘Art of Embroidery’ exhibition in London and the Ironbridge Fine Arts annual printmaking competition show.
I also teach embroidery and have given online Blackwork classes for Tatter (the Textile Library in Brooklyn, NY) and Ekta Kaul’s Inner Circle. And I am a member of the Gloucester cathedral Broderer’s.
My work is influenced by old hand coloured prints and I have been working on combining my embroidery into printmaking. With much of my recent work being centred around highlighting Vulnerable dog breeds. I’m working towards an exhibition later in the year to showcase Art embroidery, by a group of Gloucestershire based embroiderer’s.
