Drawing is the beginning of everything, whether it's a scribble in a tiny sketchbook or a huge A1 piece. Allowing myself to observe all the time and to let my imagination fly. To properly see things whatever I'm doing or to just create whatever strange scene might be coursing through my mind.
Then comes the next bit!
For a piece of glass, placement of pieces has to be precise so I do a lot of planning and designing first. Tracing paper is a must for this so I can move things around before I commit myself to cutting the glass.
Lino printing is much the same as stained glass in the way it needs to be approached. I tend to use several plates/colours so getting those in place in relation to one another is essential. Once again a lot of planning happens before I get anywhere close to cutting and printing.
Painting is an entirely different kettle of fish. No matter how I start a painting or think I know how it's going to turn out, it never does. It changes and changes. That's as close as i get to abstract painting, which I'd love the ability to do but sadly, it's not in me. I need the day to day, the faces, the obvious but with my own take on it.
