Handmade Bags - Specialising in Cork

More Info

I make unique bags using elements of cork and fabric that was destined for landfill, combined with other technical fabrics suitable for the intended use of the bag.

I use patterns that are designed by individuals and small businesses that are not produced on a commercial scale. I welcome commissions and can accommodate fabric choices as well as minor modifications such as size increases or reductions and additional pockets. Each bag I make is unique.

Cork is composed of dead cells that accumulate on the outer surface of the Cork Oak Tree which grows in Southwest Europe and Northwest Africa.

When treated and laminated to a fabric backing it is an eco friendly alternative to leather or vinyl that is perfect for bag making.

It is harvested, by experts, from the trees which are then left undisturbed for 9 years. The process of removing the cork is good for the trees as it improves their ability to absorb carbon dioxide. Over 20 million tons of CO2 are offset by the cork forests around the Mediterranean each year.

Cork fabric is:
• Waterproof
• Hypoallergenic and anti-static
• Biodegradable
• Easy to clean and care for
• Stain resistant
• Flame retardant
• Durable and flexible
• Lightweight
• Sustainable

I source my cork from a supplier based in Southern Spain who specialises in the best quality, with a variety of vibrant colours and feature panels. It is an ideal, eco-friendly alternative to leather.
