Helen is a Newnham-based self-taught artist who works in graphite and oils, creating sensitive, characterful images of people, animals and flowers. Inspired by the natural world—especially the landscapes and wildlife of the Forest of Dean where she grew up—her work reflects a lifelong love of observation and detail.

From an early age, she filled sketchbooks with drawings and paintings of people, horses and other animals, often inspired by photographs in books. Today, Helen is particularly interested in the relationships between people and their pets, tenderly capturing these bonds in her graphite portraits. Her oil paintings and drawings celebrate the beauty and presence of animals and flowers.

For commissions of bespoke pencil portraits of people and pets, Helen takes care to understand what matters most to each client. By listening closely and discussing details such as expression, pose and personality, she ensures every portrait reflects the character of its subject, creating a piece that can be truly treasured for years to come.
