Smiley Origami
More Info
I have been doing origami for over 50 years now! I started at school, making paper aeroplanes, then discovered origami in the Rupert Annual and Robert Harbin's books and TV programme. I became a member of the British Origami Society (BOS) around 1975 and have been a paper folder ever since! Over the years I’ve been PR Officer for the BOS, and Chair from 2016 - 2022.I’ve created hundreds of my own origami designs, many included in 4 published booklets of my work, and in other authors' books, origami publications etc, finding inspiration from what’s around me. Some ideas are inspired by Bristol, where I lived the majority of my adult life, and also music, culture and nature. I now live in Monmouth, Cymru, hence the sheep... I particularly enjoy using origami as the building blocks of multi-piece scenes, pictures & collages, and producing personal interpretations of more famous artworks like Hokusai's "The Great Wave", Banksy's "Girl with a Balloon" and Aardman Animation's Wallace & Gromit.
As well as producing pictures, I sell origami greetings cards, decorations & gifts at shows, and enjoy running workshops and stalls for art & craft groups, at schools, and at community events like the Monmouth Medieval Festival. Private commissions welcome.
