5 years ago I rediscovered painting

5 years ago I rediscovered painting and it changed my life! Now I’m painting full time and teaching others to enjoy the same.

For twenty years,  I thrived as a designer in the fast-paced world of high-end women’s fashion but living with a long-term injury took its toll and medical specialists advised me to explore mindfulness to help manage the pain. Rather than opting for structured classes in a clinical setting, I turned to something that had always brought me joy — painting. I enrolled in an intuitive painting course focused on self-expression through abstract mark-making and from the first brushstroke, I felt something shift.

As I immersed myself in the process, expressing my thoughts and feelings through paint, I felt a deep sense of calm. My pain eased as my mind quietened and my paintings took on a dreamy, uplifting quality which reflected my mood. Through this meditative practice, I discovered that painting could be healing and provide pain relief.

Five years on, my work has evolved into a recognisable visual language, defined by soft, expressive layers and a distinctive use of colour. More importantly, I have learned how to approach my day in a way that supports my creativity and my wellbeing.

Now, I find immense fulfilment in sharing this experience with others, especially through my immersive 1:1 teaching sessions. In these private sessions, I guide students through the same mindful, meditative approach that shaped my own journey.

Intuitive painting is accessible to everyone—whether a complete beginner or a seasoned artist seeking fresh inspiration. There’s no pressure to replicate a particular style or achieve a specific outcome. Instead, the focus is on exploration, self-expression and developing a personal artistic voice.

Sessions take place in the tranquility of my garden studio, where students have access to a wide variety of materials. Together, we experiment with different types of acrylic paint to create a library of effects, mix harmonious colour palettes and use intuitive mark-making to build a unique visual language. Through guided exercises, students weave these elements together to create abstracts infused with their own personal narratives.

Teaching is an incredibly rewarding experience. I’m constantly inspired by the individuality of each student’s work and their fresh perspectives push me to expand my own creative boundaries. It’s a shared journey of discovery—one that reminds me again and again why I fell in love with painting and how it helps me manage my pain in a sustainable, natural way.

If you're curious about intuitive painting and looking to experience the joy of mindful creativity—whether to quieten the noise of a busy world or support your well-being- I offer pay-as-you-go 1:1 sessions at £55 per hour. Students will first receive an introductory discovery call with me to see what stage they’re at in their painting journey before I tailor a plan to suit their skill level and budget.
